Job Description

Summary

The intern/aide will be involved in a variety of research projects that includes elucidating the impact of arginine deprivation on the pathogenesis of necrotizing enterocolitis, the impact of perinatal glucocorticoids on development in preterm neonates, and the development of a novel device for safer platelet transfusions in preterm neonates. The intern/aide will learn how to care for research animals, how to process tissue and blood samples for analysis, cell culture, and other bench-top analyses depending on the project. The intern/aide will also learn about scientific communication, data analysis, and careers in biomedical research.

This is a part-time position, 10 hours/week.

Job Duties

  • Utilizes both in vitro cell culture and in vivo translational piglet models.
  • Assists with daily laboratory operations, sample processing, and data collection under the supervision of senior researchers.
  • Maintains lab cleanliness, prepares reagents, assists with cell culture assays, and supports researchers during large-animal procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school or higher education institution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with animal models and animal healthcare is desired.
